What People Are Saying

“I found myself captivated by the storyline, literally sitting on the edge of my seat while reading. Great dystopian setting. Excited for the next book.”

Mariah, on Augland

“Loved this YA novel. A fresh dystopian setting (set in Seattle!) in a theme park. The lead character is a strong female lead and I loved her fierceness. Def going on my shelf with Hunger Games!

Kerrigan Wade, Augland Review

“I really enjoyed this scifi novel, it was what I was hoping for. The characters were what I was hoping for and felt like real people. I enjoyed the way Erin Carrougher wrote this and am excited to see where she'll go next.

Kat M, Augland Review

“A solid start to a mesmerizing New Adult dystopia set in a near future Pacific NW US that includes elements of Westworld sprinkled with a bit of Divergent and its own originality. The plot is captivating, fast-paced, and action-packed. The characters are fascinating, and the world-building is borderline powerful, each section a character unto itself. Definitely will be looking out for the next book. Well done, especially for a debut.”

Tabby Shiftlett, on Augland

“I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to find out what happens next.

The premise is a fairly familiar one at its heart, in this case combining some great dystopian ideas with a splash of 'Westworld' and some plucky underdogs. The main character, Ashton, is a well-constructed personality and I felt myself rooting for her and really caring what happened to her. Wolfe also has a good degree of depth and is a complex character. I did feel that some of the more minor players lacked enough personality but I think that will develop as the storyline progresses.

There are a few harrowing scenes but the violence isn't overdone and it all works well within the storyline, making the world as dark as it needs to be.

There are certainly some twists and turns and unexpected moments so I never felt like I knew what was going to happen and that made it something of a page-turner. I actually read this whole book within 24 hours because I kept wanting to pick it up again and read a bit more.

Definitely a recommended book if you're into dark dystopian storylines, three-dimensional characters, and the struggles of the masses in the grip of the powerful rich.”

Sarah Woods, Augland Review

Best new dystopian book! I loved this book and the main character Ashton. I have never read a dystopian novel based in the Pacific North West! This post-war world is set in a theme-park like corporate structure, so facinating!”

Must Read, Highly Recommend! I had the hardest time putting this book down, the story captivated me from the very beginning. The author did a fabulous job with the story line and character development. I couldn't stop thinking about the book and characters. Cannot wait to read more in the series.”

Amazing Read! Possible TV Series In The Making? One of my new favorite books of all time! Carrougher creates a new world within a dystopic Seattle that leaves the reader wanting more. It's an interesting mix of familiar places set inside of a fantasy/future world that you discover more of each chapter. The flow is really good and I ultimately had a hard time putting this one down.

What I love most about this book is that it touches on real life issues that most of us face, but presents the issues in a way that we can all relate to or at least sympathize with. The main characters are not your average "heroes" either, they are all incredibly relatable showing us all that were capable of making a difference. It also makes you feel a wide array of emotions, which I think is integral to a really good book.

The ending also gave me the vibe that there may be more books to come? I am hoping that's true because I would really like to explore more of Augland. Also, fingers crossed Netflix picks this up into a new show.”

“Amazing New Dystopian Fiction! My favorite thing about finding a great book instead of a good book is that you are thinking about the story when you are not reading the book. This one had me yearning to get back to it whenever I put it down! Such a great storyline with relatable characters, and a strong female lead! I would recommend this book to anyone and not just young adults.

Add this book to your next must read list and you won’t be disappointed! Dystopian fiction always gets me going, but this book in particular will keep you coming back for more! Well thought out, and touches on so many different human emotions.”

“Just Get It! So, I got my hands on a prerelease copy and WOW, it drew me right in! I fell victim to feeling it was more important to read another chapter over getting a good night sleep on more than one occasion. My advice is to go brew a pot of coffee, settle in, and get ready to be thrown into a wonderfully crafted world with an intriguing cast of characters and plenty of twists and turns. The author masterfully conveys the human condition against the backdrop of a dystopian horror show disguised as a futuristic theme park. Who does that??”

“Great Read - I Couldn't Put It Down! I LOVED THIS BOOK! What an incredibly imaginative, original story unlike anything else I've read. I couldn't put it down. Each chapter left me wanting more - I finished it in 72 hours. My only complaint—I want the next book in this series ASAP!”

“Great Read, Very Captivating, Makes You Think! Amazing book that's a page turner. Makes you think about what the world could become if we're not careful. Corruption can hide and will sneak up on you, this book teaches us to be mindful of our future. But also to have some faith in human nature.”

Great Read! This book was so fun to read, I had no idea what to expect when it was recommended to me, but I was hooked by the third chapter. It was entertaining all the way through and kept me guessing the whole time. I can’t wait for the next book to come out!”

“The Next Great Dystopian Series. Great dystopian YA! Can't wait to have this on my bookshelf with my other series. On par with Hunger Games.”

I had a lot of fun reading this book. Dystopian books are my favorite and I felt like this one had a lot of fun unique ideas I havent seen before. I found myself thinking about the story even after I had put the book down for the day and would like to read through it again when I have time. I like that there are two strong male/female characters and the book switches between their point of view every couple chapters. I think the world Carrougher created would make an amazing TV show if made by the right people.”

“Wonderfully creative story with many twists and turns to keep a reader interested! Augland is an interesting story that takes you to a different place in the not-to-distant future. A place that one could imagine happening in the real world. Many of the ideas presented within the storyline are taken from the reality of our current world problems. The character story lines were easy to follow, and I continued to find myself wanting to know what would happen next! This book was a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys dystopian type stories. Erin did a terrific job for her first book. Cannot wait for the next book to come out. Thank you Erin for sharing your wonderful imagination with us!”

“This was an awesome book! This book is set in an alternative world they have forbidden romance people going missing and lots of intrigue. Not to mention the great battle scenes that they practice to perform for the Uber rich. I love this book in highly recommend it if you love alternate universe is where class lines are definitely drawn then you really need to read this book.

Couldn’t stop reading!! I had anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book since my pre-order months ago! I honestly haven’t read an actual book in years (kids keep me busy!) I finished this in 3 days! I fell in love with the characters, the way the author painted pictures with words was incredible! I was in Augland while reading this novel. This book was giving me Westworld meets Divergent meets Surrogates (Bruce Willis movie) vibes and I loved every minute of it! I can’t wait for the next book to come out!”

“Dystopian page turner With Two kiddo's I don't have much time for a fun read and admittedly, it typically takes me a while to get into books. This author had me on page one and I couldn't put it down. I burned through the entire book in one weekend.

If you are looking for an adventure escape with excellent character building that pulls you into each moment, look no further! This is my first try at a dystopian style book. Needless to say, I will be seeking out more of this style and I'm hopeful to see what comes next from this author.”

“Like other reviewers mentioned, I could not, for the life of me, put this book down. I was completely immersed in the story line and character development. There were themes that were suggestive of Westworld and the Matrix, which I enjoyed (reminding me of how thought provoking these types of themes are about humanity), and also appreciated the uniqueness about Augland’s PNW dystopian world. The author described the PNW vividly and I loved how she incorporated actual structural elements of Seattle that are true and very much real in 2023.

I generally stick to reading the classics (Dickens, Tolstoy, Steinbeck, Brontë sisters), but I’m very happy that I branched out from that genre and was not disappointed by the writing style or concept of the story. I was very much entertained from the beginning to the end.

I can’t wait for this to become a series and to inevitably watch it on the big screen. This, as a series, has potential for great success. I highly recommend this read.”
